Frisco ISD Case StudyTHE CLIENT
Frisco Independent School District is at the top of the list as one of the fastest growing school districts in the state of Texas and even the nation. Located 30 miles north of Dallas, Frisco ISD is growing by 12-30 percent annually over the past 10 years. Student enrollment recently peaked at over 30,000 students as the district experienced about a 48 percent built-out.
Prior to 1998, FISD had only 7 schools. Since that time, FISD has added 36 new schools, opening 2 to 6 campuses annually. A sharp growth in physical size has greatly impacted their online web presence. As the school district grows in size, so does its commitment to excellence and its focus on providing the best learning opportunities for students. This commitment extends to their district technology initiatives to streamline communication efforts to parents and minimize staff time to manage calendar event data across multiple web pages.
THE CHALLENGE
It is highly critical for school districts to communicate effectively with parents, students and members of the community. Webmasters are being challenged to find solutions that are cost effective and meet the needs of communicating quickly and simply to a large audience.
Frisco ISD required an all-in-one calendaring solution that would allow it to unite its 25 campuses with a centralized calendar while communicating efficiently with the constituents of each, individual campus. The web staff also needed a solution that would syndicate event information dynamically across hundreds of web pages to instantly update web pages. Both large and small school districts continue to face similar issues when looking for enterprise level software in the wake of recent budget cuts.
THE SOLUTION
Active Data Calendar met Frisco ISD’s need to create a district wide calendar while allowing them to still maintain unique and separate calendar view options for the individual schools. AD Calendar was selected by the school to allow district administrators to enter events for specific audiences and schools into a master system. Once populated, the event data was repurposed dynamically across hundreds of web pages organized by category, location and/or date range in a variety of templates and display formats. The AD Calendar solution allowed the web staff to have web pages dynamically updated as events change in the master system.
“Syndicating dates and events throughout our
website is a pretty powerful feature that
was easy to setup and has been a very useful
communications tool. The Active Data
Calendar has met our needs for our schools,
our district and our community. Support for
the Active Data Calendar is excellent, and
the feedback I’ve heard about the calendar
has been 100% positive.”
