Dr. Richard Martin
1959 - 2011

The Active Data Exchange family mourns the loss of our friend and colleague Dr. Richard Martin. He was a trusted advisor to all of us at Active Data Exchange, and the best friend and beloved husband of our CEO, Susan Yee.

Rich was a student at St. Matthew’s University in the Cayman Islands pursuing his lifelong dream of becoming a medical doctor. Following over 30 fruitful and productive years  in technology, he embarked on this adventure in order to find new ways of fulfilling his goal of helping others.

He served as chief technology officer and the executive vice president of Active Data Exchange and continued to be an enormous presence even after moving to the Caymans. In between his studies, Rich continued to guide the company by leading discussions and meetings via video conference. Each one of us at Active Data Exchange will miss Rich’s leadership, friendship, the depth and breadth of his knowledge, and his infectious laugh echoing throughout the office.

In addition to his studies at St. Matthew’s and his leadership at Active Data, Rich served on multiple international technology boards, such as the ICE, W3C, and IDEAlliance, and helped develop data syndication standards used around the world. He was a member of ARIN and served on the nominations committee, and as a member of the New York CTO Club, Rich brought his knowledge to bear on real world problems and issues.

Richard was a 1977 graduate of Emmaus High School with a BS in Nuclear Engineering 1981 from Penn State University. He also graduated Summa cum laude from Southern California University with an MS in Technology Management/Doctor of Science in Engineering and Technology Management

He continued his involvement with Penn State as a board member of the Nuclear Engineering Society and of the Penn State-Lehigh Valley Advisory Board.

His passion for lifelong learning was evident in the intensity of his studies at St. Matthew’s and his commitment to sharing knowledge with others as an adjunct faculty member at DeSales University. Rich was an active member of the First Presbyterian Church of Bethlehem, as well as throughout the local community.

He is dearly missed and remembered by all. Richard's obituary appeared in the Morning Call on December 4.
